A Paris mom's guide: trusted baby products for every stage

As a mom of four little ones, all 5 and under, I’ve had my fair share of trial and error when it comes to finding the perfect products for my tiny humans.

Chez nous, we mix it up with both organic and non-organic products. This mix-and-match approach works for us. The European Union (which France is a part of) has its own set of product rules to adhere to that can be different from the US.

Most importantly, every kid is different. What's magic for one might not do the trick for another. I've had my share of oops moments with all-natural products, once landing us in the pediatric hospital—a scare that made me a big fan of the tried-and-true products you find in French pharmacies.

My quest for what works has led me to some French pharmacy favorites that have become staples in our daily routines. Here's a closer look at my go-to French baby products, a collection curated with love and lots of experience.

For the Littlest Ones

Bath Time

  • Hair & Body Wash: Mustela’s organic 2 in 1 avocado-based hair & body wash and Mixa’s organic 2 in 1 hair & body wash are my absolute favorites. They're gentle and effective.

Post-Bath

  • Baby Massage: Mustela’s avocado-based baby massage oil is a post-bath ritual that I adore with my littlest ones.

  • Conquering Dry Skin: With two eczema-prone children, Avene’s XeraCalm A.D Crème has been our go-to for hydrating their skin.

Diaper Changing Heroes

  • Combatting Diaper Rash: For diaper rash, Avene Cicalfate and Bepanthen are our trusted allies. Bepanthen is a breathable barrier cream, enriched with dexpanthenol, that protects the skin from diaper rash. It’s free from fragrance, preservatives, and colorants. Avene’s Cicalfate has become a versatile staple in our household, used for everything from rashes to my nightly moisturizer.

For the Toddlers

Bath Time

  • Cleansing and Haircare: We love Klorane’s 2 in 1 shampoo and body wash, along with their detangling shampoo. The formulas are gentle and effectively detangles my eldest’s thick, curly hair.

Post-Bath Routine

  • Tangle-Free Tresses: Klorane’s detangling spray works wonders on my eldest’s curly locks.

  • Tiny Teeth Care: Finding a toothpaste that appeals to kids can be tricky. My kids are fans of Elmex’s sweet mint and Vademecum’s organic strawberry toothpaste.

Sun Protection

  • Sunscreen Stick: I love La Rosée’s sunscreen stick. It's easy to apply and perfect for little faces and arms, making it an essential for sunny days in the park.
